A New Way of Learning - Enter Lessonly!

Working in the wireless industry for the last decade, I have seen first hand how quickly technology changes, and its impact on consumers.

Within a matter of 15 years, we went from a phone being a basic communication tool...

To becoming consumers primary source of information; where you can connect with the world, run your businesses, and communicate with others; all with a touch of your screen.

Can you imagine what type of adjustment that is for a consumer who is not considered "techie"? What about for an associate selling wireless devices and solutions to consumers?

My company has been challenged with making sure our front line customer facing associates have the knowledge and skills needed to help serve customers.  As technology shifted, our training tools however had not made the jump.  Associates were more in tune with their social media accounts, or activities on their phone rather than reading through paper documents, taking web based training courses that averaged in one hour per course per topic, or searching for information in their resources. The training components were too long for associates to digest, which led to a lack of understanding.  The reaction to this was typically for more tools to be created to re-teach the content, more work for the associates to spend time "off of the floor" helping customers, and back-end project teams scrambling to develop content to stay relevant and not lose associate mind share.

Until Lessonly...
Lessonly is an online shared learning platform that allows companies to create content in smaller bite size pieces of information, or "lessons" to teach information using media content and technologies that today's learner has come to expect.

This tool has allowed us to meet our associates where they are at by providing access to lessons on their mobile device, and via their desktop.

Studies have shown that you have just 8 seconds to captivate the attention of a learner, and the Lessonly platform helps do that with the use of media within the lessons, and keeps learning content fun, conversational, and engaging.

What is also great about this platform is it allows content creators to collaborate within the platform to build lessons and content.  This means less meetings, less emails, and less re-work for those creating content!  Lessonly can also customize based on your specific business needs, making the tool itself dynamic with the changing needs of any business.

For my organization, we introduced this platform in February and already have over 100k lessons completed, and have received an astounding amount of positive feedback from learners and content providers alike!

Here are some quick hits of what you need to know about Lessonly, and how it has benefited my organization:

  • Lessons are broken down into 5 minute lessons (including media content) with full courses being no more than 30 minutes per week
  • Lessons can be taken on associates mobile devices; allowing them to come back to the lesson at any time to finish
  • Quiz questions are built into each lesson, and scores are visible to content providers to quickly address any gaps in learning in real time
  • Content providers can make edits and comments within the platform to share work spaces helping productivity - eliminating meetings
  • Lessonly hosts videos, gifs, audio, and images making it easier to demonstrate to learners in various media forms, aligned with how learners are getting information on social media
All in all, Lessonly is a great tool for various sized organizations and can help reduce the headache and re-work to teach content to wide audiences.  For more information on how Lessonly can help your organization, check out their blog.
