Holograms On Your Smartphone Are Just Around the Corner
Holograms On Your Smartphone Are Just Around the Corner
Are you tired of
picking up your heavy smartphone? Annoyed of having to press “ignore” when a
friend calls you in the middle of the night? Soon, you may not have to physically
pick up your smart device. Hologram technology is currently in the research and
development stages at several smartphone makers to bring a new futuristic gadget to our
lives. Looks like those Star Wars holograms aren’t as far off as we
may think.
Currently, phones do
have the ability to project 3D images, but only if the user is wearing certain
types of glasses. This two item necessity can be bulky to a user and inconvenient
to lug around. Losing or breaking the glasses is a real possibility that
someone spending a few hundred dollars wont be happy about. Hologram
technology will remove the cumbersome combination of a smartphone and a pair of
glasses allowing the user to see 3D images in real time. Holograms are reality
as you will be able to interact with them, not augmented reality like the
current 3D systems.
Additionally, with current 3D systems or virtual reality, the user must immerse themselves in a
different environment. Hologram technology will bring the action to your
environment, allowing you to bring to life a person halfway around the globe in
your own room. Not only will you be able to bring another user into your
environment, but they will be a full 360 degree image, not just the 2D of the
past.
Other than using holograms to “hologram time” (nice play on Face time, I know) friends and family, users will be able to interact with apps on their phone
just as they currently do. Being able to set your alarm or hit “ignore” on a
phone call without touching a physical screen will entice many buyers to this
new market. But will this have an effect on the way we live and do business?
You bet.
Hologram technology
could remove the traveling for salesman or executives from a business,
resulting in less travel expense and potential higher salaries for workers. Not
only could hologram technology directly effect how we do business, but also how
advertisement is conducted. Imagine hearing a popcorn commercial on your Pandora
station. Now imagine that same commercial popping out at you, giving you the
ability to see the kernels POP in your face. Will holograms make us hungry? It
looks like we will soon find out.
