Mom with a filter - Social Media for Marketing

I’m not sure how many of you have jumped on the Snapchat Wagon of fun but it’s safe to say when I first started my account I had no idea how to work this fun filled application.  After a crash course on Youtube my family and friends alike were all enhanced digitally. Some of who were unaware of bunny ears placed on their faces.  Snapchat has exploded to become the third most popular social network behind Facebook and Instagram. I mean, when you can apply hilarious filters to photos that can make you spit out a rainbow and easily share these photos in seconds, it’s no wonder why!

This morning my daughter Sienna asked on the ride to school if she could go on “Snap” to see the new filters for the day and to her surprise a beautiful unicorn appeared “Mommy! she’s holding your favorite cup of coffee” squealed my six year old. It turns out that the Seattle based coffeehouse giant will sell its new Unicorn Frappuccino blended drink for a limited time or until supplies run out.

Once you head to Snapchat, hit reverse view and get your face into frame, you're going to want to tap the very first filter option that shows up because, you guessed it IT'S A UNICORN! And now you can be one, too. Without doing anything snazzy, you're already 50 percent more magical looking than you were when you woke up this morning.

In the realm of Snapchat geo-filters, that are unexpected and funny wins the race and Snapchat is certainly a top contender. I was inspired to head to their nearest Starbucks and purchase a cold drink and to my surprise I saw two ladies in rainbow wigs ordering the Unicorn Frappuccino!  They will, or have probably added Starbucks to their list of must-follow brands on Snapchat, increasing the odds that they will be inclined to drink Starbucks again and again in the future. It is Simply Genius.

    OMG! you just made my entire life! I have been asking my 25 and 11 daughters how to use snapchat! I downloaded the app months ago but it seemed so difficult. Because neither of them love me enough to NOT be embarrassed that Mom is on Snap, they collectively banded together to stop my progress.

    Wait until I show them I know how to use Snapchat! Oh what fun this will be!!

     We've all had those days. You know, those days when you are running around trying to get it all done and running into one problem after the other. Well, that's the kind of day I had today. After making lunches, getting kids off to school, working a full day, and making it just in time to my son's volleyball game across town, I decided to stop at the grocery store to grab something to make for dinner. Examples of Web 2.0 technology being used for social and business application are all around us. New technologies are appearing all the time. Everyone in this course is responsible for writing 2 new blog posts (do not reply to this one), with each being about 3-4 paragraphs long.
