@Wendys Gets Sassy!
You know this face. Wendy's iconic image of a red-headed freckle-faced girl is both cute and nostalgic. She's been around a long time. But, just like our kids are exposed to the latest technology advances, so is our cute friend Wendy. And boy has she leveraged the power of Twitter!
Wendy defied all unwritten social media ground rules and is responding to complaints and trollers with wit and hilarity. Here are some examples of how Wendy gets a bit sassy to address trollers.
Wendys can also be very playful as we see here as she responds to Jimmy John's tweet regarding #KissAGingerDay:
To address the barage of comments about other fast food chains, Wendy is quick with the wit and sarcastic humor. She's basically everything I want to be!
And sometimes she even goes straight for the jugular as in this tweet to McDonalds:
So, how are consumers reacting? They are loving it! (sorry, McDonalds!) Wendy's has added over 35,000 followers to their Twitter account in less than one month without investing anything other than quick witted employees in their Social Media division. But is that enough? With sales continuing to decline, the increased number of followers won't hurt. Some followers are pledging to eat at Wendy's as a sign of their support to the tweeters. Wendy's clearly is winning at the roasting game. Converting followers into sales is exactly what needs to happen in order to win at the profitability game.

This was an internet sensation as it was happening. Its amazing how one person and social media can lift a fast food company to more sales. I found this exchange to be hilarious, and I do not even have a Twitter account. The amount of people this witty Twitter account reached is proven by my situation. While not devised as a direct marketing tool, Wendy's has raised brand awareness through some great humor.
