Better Company
The
Better Company has created an interview app designed to connect internal employees
of a company to each other to exchange ideas, allow job candidates to interface
with current employees, in an honest and constructive environment that encourages
employee feedback in an anonymous and. The CEO, Tom Williams, who refers to
himself as the Operator-In-Chief, developed the app because he wanted to enable
others to experience the benefits from a supportive community. Tom, as a
teenager and budding entrepreneur was trying to learn programming on his own; reached
to the internet community in frustration and received help and support from
total strangers who later became some of his closest contacts. Tom believed if employers
were to offer a supportive and non-judgmental environment, listened and gave their
employees opportunities to better themselves it would contribute to overall success
of the company.
The
Better Company app allows employees of a company a safe environment to give
feedback on their work environment, offer constructive criticism for
improvements without the fear of being fired or punished for their opinions. The
company is marking this app to customers as an app for recruitment talent and reducing
turnover. The app is interactive when a candidate applies to a company, the
company supplies the candidate with a link that connect them with an employee
advocate to hear about their opinion and experience at the firm. The advocates are
anonymity allows them to speak honestly. And many times they will offer the
candidates tips for interviewing at the firm. Candidates also have access to a Q&A
page where they can read posts and submit questions to the forum.
The
Better Company charges a flat nominal annual fee but offers potential customers
the option to register for a free trial. Feedback from CEOs who have the app, love
the application because they say it gives candidates the opportunity to make an
informed decision of whether or not the company will be a good fit for them because finding a good fit is a two-way street.
In today’s
market employment applications play a vital role the recruitment and hiring of
potential employees. In the past, the process required an applicant to register
on a company website and establish a profile for job postings. The process was
cumbersome, impersonal and supplied general information about working at their
company. Many companies are employing social media recruiting sites like
Glassdoor and LinkedIn. Each time a potential applicant clicks on an
open positions, the system “learns” their preferences and they began to receive
a barrage of emails notifying them of open positions similar to the one the
viewed their originally viewed. Glassdoor allows former and
current employees to post their reviews on the company's work environment, compensation and management. The drawback is that a potential job seeker would have to subscribe
to the app. LinkedIn strategy is to get the user to
become part of a greater social community through past and present associations. It functions as a networking website in effort to target the way millennials interact in a social media environment. These recruiting tools are leaps and bounds over the old job sites
where the user would post a resume and hope to receive a “hit” from an
interested recruiter. Apps like the Better Company Interview app will be
attractive to millennials because it offers them to peek into a potential work
environment determine if that environment has the benefits, offers
opportunities for growth and will be a good fit for them. Since one of the
biggest problems companies are face with is retention, this application could
save monies lost due to high turnover.
